Make PDF accessible – PDF/UA for free, without uploading

Since the German Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG), many documents must be readable by screen readers. PDFMy recognises headings, paragraphs, lists and tables and saves a PDF/UA – even from scans, all on your device.

How it works

  1. Click ‘Make PDF accessible’ and choose the PDF or scan.
  2. PDFMy recognises the text and structures it: headings, paragraphs, lists, tables.
  3. Save – PDFMy checks the finished file and shows the result.

Why PDFMy?

Frequently asked questions

What does PDF/UA mean?

PDF/UA (ISO 14289) is the standard for accessible PDFs: the content is tagged so that screen readers read out headings, lists and tables correctly and you can jump between them.

Is the automatically generated result enough?

For most letters, official notices and invoices, yes. For publications we recommend a spot check with a screen reader – images in scans get no automatic description.
