Open PDFs directly in PDFMy

With the browser extension, PDFs that you click in Chrome or Edge – on Windows and on the Mac – open directly in PDFMy instead of in another PDF program or the built-in viewer. The file is not uploaded: it goes directly to PDFMy within the browser.

Installation (approx. 2 minutes)

  1. Download the PDFMy extension 1.0.1 (ZIP, approx. 279 KB).
  2. In the Downloads folder, right-click the ZIP file → Extract All … → Extract (on the Mac, double-clicking the ZIP file is enough). A folder pdfmy-erweiterung-1.0.1 is created.
  3. Enter chrome://extensions in the address bar (in Edge: edge://extensions) and press Enter.
  4. Switch on Developer mode at the top right or bottom left.
  5. Click Load unpacked and select the folder from step 2.
  6. The “Almost done” page opens: click Open PDFs automatically in PDFMy and confirm the browser’s prompt with Allow.

Done. Tip: pin the PDFMy icon via the puzzle icon next to the address bar – that is where you switch automatic opening on and off. Please do not delete the folder from step 2; the browser loads the extension from it.

Operation

Privacy

The extension only loads the PDF you open and passes it to PDFMy within the browser. It sends no data to us or to third parties, stores no history and contains no statistics. You grant access to websites only when you switch on automatic opening; when you switch it off, access is revoked again.

Soon also in the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons – then a click on “Add” is all it takes.
